Lots of great memories. |
| 2010-03-17 | Brett Zamora | Thanks for everyone's nice comments. It's been great to see so many visitors to this site over the years. We really had something special and it continues to live and thrive thanks to the Internet. The big MHS/THS Association reunion is next year, so mark your calendars and plan to be there. You'll be glad you did! |
| 2010-03-14 | Dave Barone | Wow ! What a great site. It brought back a lot of memories. I was at Torrejon from 69-71. I lived at Royals Oaks before moving on base. It's great to know that alot of us are around and communicating. Thanks Brett ! I would love to get to a reunion in the future.
I've had the opportunity to take my family back to Spain in 2001. Saw a lot of changes. Plan on going back again.
I'll always remember that period of my life. It was the best. I still have my yearbook from 71'. Let me know if you could use some pictures. Thanks again!

| 2010-03-14 | Elina Taylor | When I lived in Madrid from 1960 through 1966, dad worked for the federal government at Torrejon. I was little ... only 3 when we moved there ... but like many of your photos, I was class of '75 in high school so likely would have gone to school with alot of these folks had we stayed. Alas, that was not to be; nonetheless, my memories of Spain, Madrid, Torrejon, Manuel de Falla Court (where we lived), Toledo, Sevilla, Gibraltar ... the very best memories for me!! Thanks for the chance to add my bit. |
| 2010-03-05 | Tom Haupt | I went to the elementary school between '78 and '82 (grade 3 to 7). I miss the Royal Oaks. I remember the 'gypsies' that would come in every Christmas beating on gas cans and whatever just to beg for money. I also remember how important it was to lock you bike up!!! (same reason). I remember spending EVERY freakin' summer day at the pool...blasting out tunes, eating hot dogs and turning DARK brown. I remember walking the back path to go to the housing 'shoppette' and watching movies that were released two to three years prior in the States. I remember Foremost rehydrated milk, batidas, churos, and pepa seeds right off of the cart. And yep, i remember the hitch hiker's shack. AFN radio, listening to Jack Benny and CHICKEN MAN. LOL. We watched Aplauso on Sundays. People had vcr machines and ran cable to neighbor houses and played videos all day for $$$. Those with substantial video collections rented out videos. And Camping at Lake Sacedon and of course...trips to ROTA to get bubble yum and pixie sticks! (well...I was 13!) |
| 2010-02-24 | Willie Davis | It's nice to see that Torrejon lives on with so many people all over the world. I live there 74-77. I went to THS my freshman year. Before that Torrejon Middle School, still looking for a site for people who went to the middle school. Torrejon will always be the best experience in my life! |
| 2010-02-21 | Roy Pierce | How great is this? I have been trying for so long to locate any website involving THS. I attended THS one year....1976-77. My senior year. I also was so mad about being uprooted and moved to Madrid for my senior year. It turned out to be the most memorable year of my school career. I have not been able to locate any members of the class of 77. If there is anybody there, please contact me at ro4clo@yahoo.com. I am on facebook as well. Looking forward to talking to old friends and catching up. |
| 2010-02-06 | Terri Pough Grzanowicz | I was there from 73-76. Must admit those were some of the greatest times! |

| 2010-01-09 | Gisella "Bourg" Williamson | Moved to Madrid in December of 1969 and left in 1974, during those years, I attended Royal Oaks Elem., Torrejon Middle School and Torrejon High School. I lived in Madrid during that time. During the later part of the 9th grade, my family moved to Goldsboro, Seymour Johnson Air Force base, we lived there for 2 years. After living there my dad was transfered back to Torrejon and I was able to graduate with the class of 1978. I have been back to Madrid and what a place to be! I took my daugther and she loved it. My plan is to retire there in Madrid, I hope! Keep in touch through Facebook or my email address is bginsing@yahoo.com |
| 2010-01-07 | Michael "Mike" Esquibel | I was at Torrejon/Royal Oaks from 1974-77. I left Spain, in the middle of my junior year. I sure do miss the "wild" dances in Royal Oaks, under the theater and snackbar. I've probably met a lot of you at the hitch-hiking stand (base-to-Oaks and back), ha-ha! |

| 2009-07-29 | Egbert Oostburg | Thanks for putting this site together Brett. I was in the class of '85, but moved back to the states in '83. TJ was a blast and it never ceases to amaze me how special that time was. |
| 2009-07-10 | Lisa Greenwood Crozier '79 | I found the link to this site from the Torrejon/Madrid HS facebook page. It has been great to get in touch with fellow classmates from the Spain days. This brings back many memories. I've been to 2 reunions and had a great time, however it's been hard to get to the reunions in the last few years due to family vacations, graduations, kids off to college, etc. I'll miss the next one as my husband, Jim, and I will be hopefully traveling to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary!!!! |
| 2009-07-03 | Debbie Cavendish Malone | WOW!!!!!!! I am so excited to be reunited with people that I knew in my "past" life. | 2009-06-01 | Jerry Wascom '78 | Like everyone else I do love to come here and read what has been posted. Some of it I do remember, some I remember for someone told me about it. but it makes me feel part of their adventure, too. That what it was, an adventure of our young life. I am still trying to fulfill this adventure. Does anyone remember Terry Stine and if you do do you know his where abouts, I lost contact with him around 1980. We moved from Spain in 1975. |
| 2009-05-29 | Paul Murphy '79 | Bret, thanks for the great site. It is awesome to be able to reconnect with friends from the past. I know that I made life long friendships while at THS.

| 2009-02-27 | Fiona Cook (Richmond) | Brett,
I just spent over 2 hours of what was a busy day browsing throught this website. What an incredible job!!!! I loved finding Mr Paulin's website under the links, as I think he was one of my favorite teachers. I went on one of the summer Ecology trips with him the summer before we left ('73) and when we returned to Madrid my parents were packed up and in a hotel. I became quite sick from the trip. I had to be hospitalized with what came to be dysentery. Lovely!!! Anyway Thanks so much for the wonderful 2 hours I just spent. Fiona

| 2009-02-26 | Leslie Kathryn Bogue '75 | Brett! I cannot believe that it's been almost 4 years since you created this incredible website! As many of those before me have said...I want to extend much gratitude & appreciation for the work and love you have shared with all of us!
The best years of my life were with all of you guys...and with each Reunion....my love is enhanced! YOU are all a part of me...!
There are those who don't understand and will never make the effort to do so. All I have to say is..."that's too bad"! What we shared as youngsters and what we continue to share...is like nothing else!
Te amo, con todo mi corazon......siempre! |
| 2009-02-07 | Patrick Macphearson (crouch) | Class of 67 but rotated back to the states in 66 lived in Cannillejas and Royal Oaks and terrorized both.could have gotten in serious trouble had we been caught at anything. Hell we even had fake blank report cards so we could cover up for our poor attendance at school. Does anyone remember spanish ice cream sandwiches, woodsies, Derbi motorbikes, Seat 600"s, spanish firecrackers, black tobacco cigarettes, general hell raising and Having of fun. The most bizarre experience was at the movie theater downtown watching "The man who shot Liberty Valance" When the movie was stopped and President Kennedy's assasination was announced. The best place I visited was Mijas where myself and a friend stayed at Mr. Morris' (english teacher) summer house. My Fondest memories are skipping school riding metros hanging out in Retiro park, sneaking around the palace in Osuna ,the sewer, the old movie set from Dr. Zivago.and the Aitana Hotel I would love to mention names but we all know who we are, favorite nightspots were the Caves and the Select Ties required downtown of course.I remember everyone and everything.Even some who have posted here. |

| 2009-01-18 | Alan "Rusty" Nelson | I attended MHS from 1963 - 1965. I have very fond memories of Spain, the High School and friends. We lived at Royal Oaks and spent many summer days at the pool there. I was really choked up when I saw what has happened to the haunts at RO. All that is left is my memories which are starting to fade as I grow older. Thank you for putting up this site. |
| 2009-01-09 | Michael Currier | I remember how I felt when I was told we are moving to Spain I found myself as a young boy afraid to go as I would be leaving all my friends. Once I arrived in Spain I met so many more friends that it was easy to loose track of the people in the past. The years in Spain made such an impact on my life it was hard to understand until now as I look back and realize that all my great memories always revert back to the friends I made Spain. Some of my greatest memories were at the horse barn on the base, I will always remember those special people and my only regret is not keeping in touch with them. |
| 2008-12-22 | Craig M. Tingley | In the Sacramento 2 photo link, the lady to the far left of Will is my sister Glenna M. Tingley, (with the white hat), and the man in the center is my father, Arthur M. Tingley, (who was a teacher at Royal Oaks Elementary School for many years). |
| 2008-11-20 | M. Lucas-1974 | Sheila Krist, I saw your photo in "Now and Then" and many great memories came back. How the heck are you? |
| 2008-10-27 | Frank Nelson - 72 | Muchas thank you for putting up this website so we can all travel back in time. Hopefully if the next reunion is near where I live I'll try to go for sure. |
| 2008-10-17 | M. Lucas | I had a fantastic time from 1973-74 in Spain. I actually was directed to the site by any old flame from those glorious days. I looked at some of the photographs and wonder if I can place mine up for all to see. I'll have to think about that. I am planning a trip to Spain next year and hope to find Madrid in good shape. I haven't been back since I graduated in June 1974. Hope all are well. I'm not sure if many people I was close to really remember me, but I still remember many things like it was yesterday. There was a night club/disco that a lot of us use to go to for "cuba libres". Anybody remember the name of it, please post the answer. I also loved going to Casa Decampo and the Rastro. Too many memories! |
| 2008-10-14 | Joe Marsh ('75) | Hey, Brett. Great work. I just discovered this site and really enjoyed everyone's memories of Madrid and the then-and-now photos. I'll try to drag some up to forward. Thanks for your work putting this together. I hope to make the next big reunion. |

| 2008-10-01 | Pablo Bear | Sweet tribute to Andrea, Brett! She's a gem! We own a gorgeous painted egg she made. I also have a drawing she made of me when we were in highschool---a cartoon Horse. Great work, Brett! |
| 2008-09-21 | Rose Carlucci Vargas | Brett,
I just read your tribute to Andrea and it's fantastic! I have been a long time fanatic of Andrea's work---since our THS days. I myself, have a wonderful watercolor of hers titled "The Waterway Ballet" hanging in my home.
You've done yet another excellent job of bringing our attention to the many talents of one of our own.
Thank you for dedicating your time and expertise to give us this gift of Andrea and her life work and also the gift of our beloved Forever Knights by sharing ths.zware.net.
All my best to you.

| 2008-09-14 | Corinne Harden | AWESOME spotlight on Andrea!!! Bravo!!! I've been a long time fan of her art, and of Andrea herself :) I get a sense of wonder each time I see how diverse her talents really are. I truly enjoy her scenic paintings as well as her whimsical art work... it's such an amazing mix of artistry and imagination! And she is definitely a brave inspirational survivor as well!! Thank You Brett for pulling this together... You too have done an awesome job with this spotlight! :)) CoCo |
| 2008-09-08 | Rhonda S. Mann | My sister Pam alerted me to this sight. It is wonderful to look at the then and now pictures. I'll have to try and make one of the upcoming reunions.

Scattered across the country yet all together in heart.....we are all rich with friendship and love. Wishing I had been there for the last reunion but viewing the pics gave me warm fuzzies and a big smile. Chris's photos were great....love the black and white format and they were all so great in the story they each told...wonderful...but hey.....I musta been in the wrong crowd because I wasn't in any of them!!!!!!!! Thanks again Brett....and to all the contributors out there that work so hard to give the rest of us so much joy!!!! MMMWWAAAAAAH!!!!! |
| 2008-08-15 | Skip Vaughn | Great memories of hanging out at the Royal Oaks pool in the summer, going out to the clubs in Madrid on the weekends with my best friends Mike Montijo and Paul Amiel. Being part of the band called the "Brass Tacks" Skip,Paul, Mike, Don. Some of the best times in my life in Spain! Playing our music at the Teen Club. Never went to a reunion yet! WoW gotta go one of these times. |
| 2008-08-14 | Sheila (KRIST) Hanson | WOW... can't believe I'm so late in finding this. I see Rick (my brother) signed this some time ago. These pictures brought back some wonderful memories, and I have sat here smling the entire time I looked. Thanks for giving us this gift !!! |

| 2008-07-02 | Lisa Downing | It was great to see faces from the past. As military brats we are always looking for our past friends and now with all the scifi we can locate them so much easier. I was there from '69-'73. My older sister Debbie, graduated from there in '73. The last two years we lived on base and had hores at the barn there. Was sad to see the base close. |
| 2008-06-24 | Verleen Rohrer Smith | Wow! What a great web site. I was in Madrid 1960-1963 and graduated in 1963. Even though most of you were 10 years or so behind me, our memories are still the same. There is no place like Madrid and no people like the ones from MHS. After 45 years the friendships are still there, stronger than ever. How fortunate are we? I believe, being one of the "early" residents of Royal Oaks (62C), we set the pattern for you guys! Glad to hear you kept it up! What can I say except thanks for listening to the "old lady" of the Forever Knights!!!! |
| 2008-06-22 | Rose Carlucci Vargas | Brett---this is the best connection to THS by far! Thank you for all the love you have shared here for all of us THS'ers. Chris's link to 178 "lost" photos is a true gift and I hope everyone takes the opportunity to stroll through the pics and through your site. While viewing the pictures I "got that feeling" again. Days gone by for sure but the memories are forever there, Forever Knights!
Sincerely
Rose Carlucci Vargas

| 2008-02-25 | Bud Boswell '74 | Brett,
Great work on the site. After talking to Don Pierini this weekend for the first time since 75 or 76, I realize how much I have missed the old days at THS and Royal Oaks.
Your sister, Lori, was one of my first friends as I joined the freshman class 8 weeks into the scool year of 70-71.
Seeing pictures from the reunions on the site was awesome, I don't think Eduardo Vargas has changed at all!!
I look forward to resuming some of the long ago friendships, can't wait to get some poop on the next reunion.
Bud |

| 2008-01-09 | Jackie Birdsall Goodwin | I moved from Madrid in 1971 I was in the second grade, but I have many fond memories. I remember the candy man well, and going to the movies right down from our house every Saturday morning. We lived right across the street from the pool. I remember when my sisters Felicia and Stephanie went to see Gary Puckett and The Union Gap the swimming pool. If anybody remembers me or my sisters and my brother Greg Birdsall my e-mail address is jackiegoodwin5@hotmail.com would love to here from you. |
| 2007-12-18 | Scott Greeson - Zoo Croo | What can I say that hasn't been said? You have done a great job. There is not a day goes by that I don't think about THS. Anyone intrested in e-mailing my e-mail is SGClaiborne911@yahoo.com . |
| 2007-11-14 | Harold Parker | 14 November 2007. Great site cannot wait for my membership to be approved so I can locate old classmates. |
| 2007-10-16 | Pete (P.J.) Solana | Great job!! A real pleasure to see some of the old faces and places. I am currently a football coach in Austin Texas, and guess what? we are the KNIGHTS. |
| 2007-10-12 | Jerry Kennedy | I saw a post on here from Steve Liddington. Steve, you lived in the apartment just above ours at Las Torres. Your older sisters are Pam and Judy. That was such a cool place. |
| 2007-10-12 | Jerry Kennedy | Wow!!! I guess flashbacks do happen. We lived in the Oaks from 68-71. We lived in Unit 60-A. Just down the fire lane from the fruteria. What memories. Was best friends with Mark and Scott Keller before we got transferred. Also lived our last 18 months in Las Torres, the 3 towers on Avenida de Burgos 20. (dad did a short stint in Saudi Arabia, we stayed in Madrid). Cool site Brett!! |
| 2007-08-02 | Mara Kully '89 | It was great to see this site and read some of the memories, we need more from our class. Violeta Ruiz(Maddox) e-mailed me recently and told me about it. I'm in Central Cali, is anyone else??
Hope everyone is well and happy!! |
| 2007-08-01 | Rob Gosnell | Hi Everyone,
It was nice to get this site from Brett. I lived in Spain from 69 until 73. I hung out w/Clem Saenz, Alberto Vargas and Mike Ross. Clem & I still keep in touch. Boy did we have good times over there. Not a day goes by that I don't think back to those times. |
| 2007-07-24 | Rick Krist | Brett, great job with the web site. I spent a good amount of time just looking over the photos of old friends and it put a big smile on my face. Thanks for keeping the memories alive! |
| 2007-06-06 | Jay Pooler | Brett, Fantastic job with the web page. Haven't had the oppurtunity to re-visit my youth in sometime. Enjoyed seeing all the faces and reliving the memories in my mind from 1975. Hello to all the alum's from THS... jaympooler1@yahoo.com

| 2007-05-02 | Steve Hermann - 75 | Brett: Professional work - my compliments! Promise I will send some pictures. Trina/Larry: Want to see you both at the next reunion. Saludos: Steve |
| 2007-04-18 | Lenore Boykin '75 | Wow, Brett, you have skills! |
| 2007-04-15 | Jane Hunter | Brett, you have really outdone yourself! There are some absolutely wonderful pictures in your files. I honestly have very little recollection of you taking all these pictures which is also a sign of a great photographer. Thanks for all your efforts. There is only one thing missing - you! Next time, hand some of us your camera to catch a few good ones of you! Thanks again, Jane |
| 2007-04-14 | Nici Singletary | Hey Brett, nice job on the website! I especially loved the "then and now" section, especially since I have not been able to get to a reunion. Why is it that men always look better as they age and women...well, we're lucky if we can hold on own! It would be nice if everyone would send you a current picture of themselves so that this section could be expanded. Thanks for taking all the time you have obviously spent on making a great website for all alumni! -Nici |
| 2007-04-06 | Steve Liddington | Very well done! I enjoyed the visit and will forward the link to the rest of the Liddington Family. It was great to see all those smiles again. You all look healthy, happy and ready to Party On…I Hope to catch up with you all.
Hasta más adelante

| 2007-02-09 | Maria Price-Johnson | Just found this site and it's great. I lived in Royal Oaks from 1970 til 1976. Had alot of great friends and times. |
| 2007-01-06 | Stacy Goins | I am searching for an old family friend, Alvin Smith, who lived in Royal Oaks in 1966. He and his wife had two adopted baby boys of mixed ethnicity. Does anyone remember them? They may have passed away as a result of the January 17, 1966 nuclear tragedy. Alvin's wife's name was Judy or Julia. Alvin was with the 401st. ANY leads would be greatly appreciated. If you or your parents have any information, however sketchy, please email me at stacysmileyface@yahoo.com. Thanks! :)

| 2006-12-21 | Ray Haselman | I was in Torrejon for only my senior year 1973. I have been to the Ft Lauderdale and Dallas reunions so advise me about anymore 'get togethers' please!! |

| 2006-05-28 | Tessa Hoenig '76 | Brett, thank you for all your fabulous work on this site. Here I am (still) at 2:30 in the morning having so much fun reading and viewing the pictures. It's so much... I love it. I'm now seeing how many more people I missed at reunions.... they really are such a high... just about sensory overload! I appreciate the pictures of our school and the base. Thank you, too, to Corinne and others that contributed so many pictures. They are filled with so many memories. |
| 2006-03-22 | Paul Utterback | I would really like to hook up with some of the folks from 1974, I have really been out of the loop for such a long time..really miss my time at Torrejon...this is a great site to begin renewing old friendships |
| 2006-01-30 | Misty Straight McMullen "79" | Need more 79ers in here! Loved your website but was amazed at how much I have forgotten. The then and now pictures helped me recognize Jane Hunter, had a crush on her brother for years! Surprised nobody mentioned Mr. Paulin, he was my favorite, LOTS of personality! Remember he would tape his first class then play it for the rest stopping for questions rather than repeating it for each class! |
| 2006-01-03 | Corinne Harden 76 | Love the latest addition of aerial photos of THS and Torrejon AB! Such wonderful memories!! Great job as alwayz ZMan :)) |
| 2005-12-09 | Brian Jacobs Class of 63 | Excellent website! Recalling memories of Plinio Llorens and Gabby Melton evokes pleasantly mixed emotions. | 2005-12-03 | Penelope Major McCarthy | Juan Llorens, I knew your father well. Please email me at penillawafr@aol.com. |
| 2005-11-11 | Juan Llorens | Hi everyone, I'm Juan Llorens, Plinio Llorens' younger son, my father graduated in M/THS in 1963, but I'm writing this because he died 10 months ago and I want to know things, aneccdotes, whatever of his time in M/THS. Please if you remember my father, contact me at jllp_@hotmail.com.
P.S. Gabrielle Chandler, you graduated the same year as my father, Do you remember him? Are you in contact with some of your classmates? If so please let me know. And if don't let me know too. Thanks |
| 2005-10-18 | Ken Glidewell Class of 1988 | Great Site! I just got an email from an old dormmie friend which has resparked my interest in seeing who else has gone to THS. Very interesting going through the teachers and seeing a lot of the same ones that were still there. Keep up the work. |

Am married have 2 grown boys and 3 grandchildren also boys ages, 3, 2, and 10/mo. Nice to see this sight up and running. The old site has been in limbo now for at least 2 years. Keep up the good work. |
| 2005-09-08 | David Vidal-Cordero '73 | Wonderful page, Brett. Thank you so much for taking the time to prepare it and make it available to all of us.
As a "lifer" at M/THS (starting in first grade at the Generalísimo school), I can attest that we all spent some magical years in Spain, floating through various cultures and crossing a border every day to enter TAB.
To this day, those memories, experiences, and friends are a central component of who I am today.
Abrazos to all.
David |
